Responsibilities
Tasks
- Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders
- May conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods
- Prescribe medication and treatment
- Refer patients for surgery
- Prepare research papers for publication and presentation
- Supervise laboratory activities
- Act as consultants to other physicians
- Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
- Teach one or more university subjects
- Teach students through lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations and laboratory, shop and field studies
- Record and process patient data
- Perform administrative tasks
- Perform cardiovascular procedures and tests
- Grade examinations, term papers and laboratory reports
- Develop and interpret radiographic film
- Deliver lectures and presentations
- Conduct laboratory sessions to supplement lectures
- Conduct literature reviews, surveys, laboratory experiments and other research for use in academic publications
- Assess extent of injuries or illness of trauma victims to determine emergency medical treatment
- Interpret test results
- Diagnose patients' diseases and disorders
- Perform routine, emergency and post-mortem examinations
- Operate X-ray, radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment
- Monitor patients and advise physician of any changes in patients' condition
